Return to Resilience is a practical introduction to understanding your nervous system, creating safety, and building the capacity to navigate life, relationships, health, and healing with greater ease

There comes a point when many of us realise that despite all our efforts, knowledge, and good intentions, we still find ourselves feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, disconnected, anxious, reactive, or stuck.

We try to think our way through it. We push harder. We tell ourselves to be more positive, more disciplined, more resilient.

But what if the issue isn't a lack of willpower?

What if your nervous system is simply doing exactly what it was designed to do?

This course offers you a practical online self paced introduction to the nervous system, somatic awareness, and the science of safety

The Truth about Resilience

Most people think resilience means:
•Pushing through
•Being strong
•Staying positive
•Never struggling
•Bouncing back quickly

But true resilience is something very different.

Resilience is your capacity to stay connected to yourself whilst navigating life's inevitable challenges.

It isn't about avoiding stress. It's about developing the ability to experience stress without becoming overwhelmed by it.

It's about returning to balance more easily, more often, and with greater self-awareness.

This course will show you how

Designed for practitioners and the general public alike, this course will help you understand how your nervous system shapes your experiences, relationships, health, healing, and everyday life.

Most importantly, it will help you develop a new relationship with yourself - one grounded in compassion, safety, awareness, and one which invites in resilience and capacity.

What Makes This Course Different?

Many courses teach regulation techniques.

Few help you understand the bigger picture.

Return to Resilience provides a simple but powerful framework:

Safety → Regulation → Resilience

When your nervous system experiences greater safety, regulation becomes possible.

When regulation becomes more available, resilience grows.

And as resilience grows, life begins to feel less like something you're surviving and more like something you're living and thriving at.

Why Return to Resilience?

Because resilience isn't something you have to achieve.

It's something you already possess.

The protective patterns, coping strategies, and survival responses that have helped you navigate life are signs of a nervous system trying its best to keep you safe.

This course helps you understand those patterns, develop greater capacity,
and reconnect with the resilience that is already within you.

Inside Return to Resilience,
you will learn

Regulation and Dysregulation

Discover what it really means to be regulated. Learn why regulation isn't about feeling calm all the time, and why dysregulation isn't something that needs fixing or judging.

Thoughts, Feelings and Sensations

Understand the difference between what you think, what you feel emotionally, and what you experience physically. Develop greater awareness of the body's role in your lived experience.

To recognise Survival Patterns

Learn how protective adaptations can show up as: •People-pleasing •Perfectionism •Overthinking •Hyper-independence •Chronic busyness •Anxiety •Shutdown You'll begin to see these patterns not as flaws, but as intelligent survival strategies developed in response to past experiences.

Discover the core principles that underpin my work: •Presence •Connection •Safety •Co-regulation •Client-centred care •Resilience-raising For practitioners, this provides a taste of the philosophy behind the Soma Massage Method™. To support yourself and your clients for life

A range of resources are included. The worksheets are designed to deepen your understanding and support integration with reflective questions, practices, prompts and exercises. Simple, memorable visual models translate key concepts into clear, practical guides that move you from insight to lived experience.

Return to Resilience

You are not broken. Your responses make sense. Your nervous system has always been trying to protect you.

You are not your stress.

You are not your anxiety.

You are not your overwhelm.

You are not your shutdown.

These are experiences. Not identities.

Safety matters.

Connection matters.

Presence matters.

Healing is not about becoming someone different.

It is about reconnecting with who you already are.

Resilience is not something you earn. It is not something you achieve.

It is something you return to. Again and again.

A Note for Practitioners

If you've ever found yourself wondering:

"Why do clients keep returning with the same issues?"

"Why does technique sometimes only take people so far?"

"Why wasn't I taught more about the nervous system?"

Then this course will offer a valuable introduction to the principles that underpin the Soma Massage Method™.

It's not a practitioner training.

It's the doorway into a completely different way of understanding
health, healing, touch, and human experience.

"Jan has a deep knowledge of how the body, soul and mind are connected and functions. With this understanding Jan can get to the root of any issues. I described my problem in a no rushed consultation and left after my treatment in a better place mentally and physically. "

J Davies

"I would recommend  Jan whenever you feel under par, stressed, worried, unable to cope or just need a way of letting stuff out. My last visit was more of a problem with my mind causing me to stress my body. She listens and understands and then she helps. I would say that her approach and her expertise and methods are first class. Don’t hesitate to give her a try."

Why work

           with ME

Hi I'm Jan!

Founder of Embodied Therapies and The Soma Massage Method™

This course was born out of a lifelong passion to heal myself from childhood traumas and symptoms of c-PTSD, a curiosity from decades of working with client’s bodies as to what helped them to get better, ongoing study and research around chronic stress and trauma, and trainings in various bodywork disciplines and coaching.

My specialism for the last 6 years has been in trauma informed bodywork, supporting my clients to reconnect with their bodies, re-establish safety within themselves and rediscover their inner harmony, vitality and joy, ie resilience!

Having treated over a 1000 clients in Soma Massage™ by January 2026, I developed The Soma Massage Method™ to share this discipline with bodyworkers, and realised its significance for us all!

It is my wish to reach more people beyond clients and therapists seeking to live and work in a more attuned, authentic, aligned way through presence, connection and self awareness steeped in safety.

This course invites us to recognise with compassion how our nervous system has only ever been working in our service and how this understanding is key for us all to Return to Resilience, and access and return to the innate life force within each of us that can get overshadowed by life circumstance and challenge.

"I reached out to Jan at a time of my life where I was struggling with physical back pain and a lot of emotional turmoil in my personal life.

From the initial call, right through to my last session, Jan held an immense amount of space for me to speak my truth and listen to the parts of me that have been suppressed for so long.

She was a person I massively leaned on during those dark times and I am so grateful we got the opportunity to connect. I am continually reaping the benefits of her sessions and finding what it means to step into my authentic self"
R Allman
"I was recommended to work with Jan to help me regulate my nervous system and move through deep grief I was experiencing after 3 major losses in my life.

Jan is an expert at holding space, allowing time to unravel and to feel safe whilst doing so.  The care and time she takes is testament to how I feel now, more empowered with greater understanding of how I can help myself to move through anxiety and grief no longer feeling stuck with no energy or direction.
